Louisiana's Barrier Island Treasures
The Naperville Cultural Center is pleased to present, Louisiana's Barrier Island Treasures, an art exhibition featuring photography and short films highlighting the dramatic coastline of Louisiana and one of America's most unique, yet endangered cultures.
Louisiana loses 25-35 square miles of wetlands every year - more than any other state in America. Hurricanes Katrina and Rita increased the importance of communicating the value of Louisiana's barrier islands and coastal communities to the nation. Once resort areas, the barrier islands now are rarely seen by the public and are federally protected. These barrier islands are the last natural defense for Louisiana's wetlands. For more than six years, a handful of Southern Louisiana's researchers, biologists and regional artists have worked together to document and capture images of Louisiana's fragile coast and the people who work and live there.
Come and catch a rare glimpse of what makes Louisiana a national treasure. The exhibition runs from July 8th through September 8th at the Naperville Cultural Center (Main Street Promenade, 2nd Floor, 55 South Main, Suite 211).
The public is invited to attend an opening reception on July 8th from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. There will be an artist talk by Caesandra Seawell at 7:30pm and live music by Steve Rohbock, a pianist from New Orleans!
