GAP celebrates Italy (Global Ambassadors Program)
December 10th, 2009Jobs, Self, Being, Existentialism and Art
December 7th, 2009
I tell you – the job situation in the US these days does not seem right – it certainly is not easy. We have so many “over qualified” individuals with not enough good jobs – it actually reminds me, and I hate to say this, of some of the European folks that I have met who have moved to the US for work. I remember the discussions and how envious I was of their “free” graduate education…. until they would get to the part about needing to leave their home country because of the lack of work. I soon became very disappointed in the utopia that seemed to exist abroad.
These days – with the seriousness of the situation – I find it is extremely important not… NOT… to take oneself too serious. Afterall, we are more likely to attract bees with honey than vinegar. It is easy to become bitter and resentful. It is also easy to place blame. The reason I might feel that way is because I can feel that way sometimes myself. That’s usually when I calm myself down, pick myself up and tell myself that its move on or perish. So, I move on! There are just too many quotes about persistence and success and not giving up and not losing faith to list them all. To many quotes about Edison’s lightbulb failures. How frustrating that must have been!
But enough about that. I uploaded the pptx file I skimmed in case anyone was interested … We had a few delays in the beginning of the meeting so I had to go fast so the panelists could really get going. All in all we got through everything pretty much on time. I tell you the most valuable thing was really just getting the feedback and getting to know some of the great things people are working on out there in the community. Even if it’s self improvement stuff. And what is really huge to me is that so many people who certainly could have sat at home moping got up, and came out! That is the first step. You know, you just never know who your going to meet or where it will lead to. CLICK FOR PPTX:

So, why “Jobs, Self, Being, Existentialism and Art”? Jobs because that was the topic. Self because it’s all about personal strength, perseverance, will, direction… it’s all about self (especially if you’re doing things you’d rather not do). Being because sometimes we MUST just stop, feel, be. Existentialism because we can drive some part of our own destiny. And Art because I want to influence you to be artful (like grace) in all that you do – like the poet philosopher you are.

The Naperville Cultural Center
December 2009
Dear Friends, Neighbors, and Family,
It’s already December! I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend with family, friends, and loved ones. This is an exciting month for all of us at the Naperville Cultural Center. We are ready to help YOU pick out the perfect gifts from the Naperville Cultural Center for your loved ones. If you need a break from the holiday rush, think about stopping in for a class or make a mosaic with us. Perhaps you might want to enroll your daughter or son in a class while you finish up your shopping.
Taking classes at the Naperville Cultural Center is a GREAT way for children and adults alike to push away the winter blues and keep our creative energies flowing. The days might be getting shorter, but there’s a lot to do at the Naperville Cultural Center.
Keep an eye out for exciting new classes to be offered in 2010!
PS-Here’s a list of great travel-related books to read this winter! Cozy up with hot chocolate by the fireplace and a warm blanket, and travel without ever leaving your home!

Food, Family, and Fundraising
A Message from Michelle LeBlanc:
This past Thanksgiving weekend brought me closer to my inner chef as well as to my family. We shopped, baked, chopped, sautéed, and ate together. We also made snarky remarks about the excessive commercialization of the holiday season together.
Speaking of family, my mom, who is quite elderly, managed to swipe a few things she thought were hers on the way out the door. For one, it made changing the channel difficult that evening. She nabbed a few cell phones, too. But, in the end, it gave me a reason to visit her again the very next day. (I wonder if she does that on purpose?!). And, we all enjoyed more food and card playing than anyone in the history of eating and card playing ever did.
On Saturday, we went to the Red Cross Asian Disaster Relief fundraiser.
It was a blast. There was some really good food and games and performances!

Their goal is to raise $60,000 to send to the help people who lost their homes and families due to the typhoons. I understand there were many children who were orphaned, too. If you want to learn more or hope to get involved in this great cause, go to www.ccadr.net.
